Giró GirBagger awarded as the Best New Packing/Processing equipment by United Fresh Produce

United Fresh Produce Association has recently awarded Giró GirBagger during the 2010 New Product Awards which took place during the United Fresh show celebrated in Las Vegas from April the 21st to the 22nd. The United Fresh 2010 New Product Awards honour the results of years of R&D and the foresight of companies bringing new innovation to the marketplace stimulating the growth and profitability of fresh produce industry. United Fresh Produce is a trade association founded in 1904 to represent the produce industry and is committed to driving the growth and success of produce companies and their partners by concentrating its efforts in areas like leadership in government relationships; leadership in food safety, quality assurance, nutrition and health, innovation and business growth. The Giró GirBagger machinery range, as part of the Giró global supplier business model, has been recognized to fulfil all these values by the attendees to United Fresh 2010. Versatility, reliability and high productivity of the GirBagger range brought this machinery generation to become a reference in the fresh produce packing business.

ΩBag - ‘WORLDSTAR FOR PACKAGING’ AWARD WINNER

The World Packaging Organisation – WPO-, in their last meeting held in November in Sri Lanka has granted the WorldStar award in the category of food packaging to the Omega Bag packing from Giró. This prestigious award recognizes the best initiatives for the packaging on a global scale. In the edition of 2009, after overcoming the corresponding national phases, they have participated 239 projects of 35 countries. Multinationals like Unilever, Danone, LG Electronics or Pepsico also have obtained the Worldstar Award in different categories.The Omega Bag developed by Grupo Giró continues its successful launching path after it has also obtained the Liderpack award inside the event of Graphispack.The Omega Bag from Giró is a packaging appreciated by its excellent features as it allows an excellent transpiration and content visibility, it is ergonomic –thanks to its high strength and convenient handle-, it is light and it is respectful with the environment since it is constituted in its totality by HDPE what makes it 100 % recyclable. Thanks to this it contributes to a minimal environmental impact and to a limited carbon footprint in all his cycle. The Omega Bag from Giró offers an excellent relation between the weight of the packaging and the weight of the content.  The Omega Bag is designed to be produced with compostable raw materials shortly. Ideal for citrus fruits, potatoes, onions or other horticultural products. Giró has provided Omega Bag with different executions according to the elements, sizes and shapes that form it, allowing an excellent segmentation of the product in the point of sale.

Ω-Bag packaging system

The Ω-Bag package is a new development from Giro that offers an alternative into the low-cost net bag segment, particularly the well-known clipped net bags.The Ω-Bag comes from a very simple idea, a tubular knitted net with both ends joined in a handle.<br>This simple idea becomes a convenient, economical, highly visible, ergonomic and attractive packaging. <BR /><BR />Before launching the Ω-Bag a qualitative research has been carried out with the objective to know the consumer’s opinion, who gave a very favourable assessment on this new bag.In this research consumers expressed their preference for the new Ω-Bag against traditional clipped net bag. Basically they pointed out its handling convenience, its attractiveness and the strength feeling. <BR /><BR />Obviously the <b>Ω-Bag</b> is possible because there is a bagging machine capable to make it. The <b>OB-10</b> presented in Fruitlogistica’08 is the first prototype of <b>Ω-Bagger</b> series. Thanks to the ultrasound welding technology the <b>OB-10</b> is capable to make an excellent net-label-tape junction to make up the <b>Ω-Bag</b>. It is foreseen to install the first test unit in Autum’08 and the  regular production is planned for Spring-Summer 2009.

The World’s first fully compostable net bag

Giró, as a world’s leader in horticultural packaging systems based on net and highly oriented to the new product development, has been working in the biodegradable and compostable materials research and packaging systems for the last five years.<br><br/>Research is bringing a return and today we can offer a compostable knitted net, a printed compostable <b>Girfilm</b> and, therefore, the possibility to make the world’s first fully compostable net bag<br><br/>Currently the Giro compostable range comprises compostable knitted net (available in yellow, green, red, orange, white, black or natural) and <b>Girfilm</b> also compostable with the standard width range (75 mm, 90 mm, 119 mm, 130 mm or 145 mm) and can be printed up to 8 colors. <br><br/>These compostable consumables allow us to produce compostable packaging like <b>Girplus®</b>, <b>Girsac®</b> or <b>Ultrabag®</b>.<br><br/>To make compostable bags we need to use the last generation and leading edge machinery. This range can work with compostable materials thanks to its features: <br>•accurate welding conditions<br>•soft handling<br>•it is possible to print<br>  the variable data through a thermal-transfer printer

Weigher PEG-14/120 FD

Giró’s aim is to offer the right product to every market need, that’s why we developed the new PEG-14/120 FD for weighing apples and soft fruits. This machine complements the existing range  of soft fruit weighers.<br><br/>It is a 14 buckets static weigher specifically developed for the soft fruit handling and weighing –particularly to weight apples-.<br>The <b>PEG-14/120FD<b> is a well balanced weigher to perfect match  together with two <b>GB-55Soft</b> or <b>UB-60Soft</b> bagging machines and, therefore,  obtain a packaging line capable to offer a high output (up to 40 bpm). <br><br/>In order to feed the two bagging machines, the <b>PEG-14/120 FD</b> includes 2 output belts. This weigher is equipped with an adaptative and smart weighing system capable to automatically adjust the settings. Through this feature the machine adapts their parameters in order to obtain the best speed and accuracy for every type of fruit.

GirControl Plus

The innovation in the packaging systems that the Giró Group is bringing out to the market is not only offering the best packaging, consumables or machinery for the fruits & vegetables. It is also a matter of concern to provide a leading service to the packing stations allowing an accurate control of their production   and   keeping   the   machinery   in perfect workshop conditions thanks to a system for the diagnostics, prevention and remote action.<br><br/>This is what <b>GirControl Plus</b> is offering. A device to be installed in a PC connected to the new generation welding machines <b>UltraBagger</b> or <b>GirBagger</b> is exchanging information such as the machine settings, alarms or production data. <br><br/>The <b>GirControl Plus</b> makes the production data available for external analysis (real time and historic information), allows remote adjustments to the machine (setup packs, adjust global settings, transfer programs from one machine to others, etc...) and also remote technical assistance (from outside through a telephone line, GSM or ADSL) for a faster response to problems and to avoid useless visits just to change incorrect settings. <br><br/>All in all, the <b>GirControl Plus</b> is a unique tool in our sector that broadens new horizons to the management of the packing stations.

Invisible spot detection system ‘Spot-Less’

Nowadays the existing systems to get a centered message in a film are based on a visible mark or ‘spot’ on the film that the bagging machine is detecting through photo-cells. The main disadvantage of this ‘spot’ is that once we have the resulting net bag (i.e. Girsac-R or Ultrabag-R pack type), cosmetic-wise it somehow gets stained with a visible black&white mark.<br><br/>Giró has developed the <b>Spot-Less</b> system that uses an invisible mark on the <b>Girfilm</b> and an outstanding detection system available in the <b>GirBagger</b> and <b>UltraBagger</b> range. Thanks to the <b>Spot-Less</b> system the final packs have better appearance and the spot detection is proven to be much more reliable than the traditional transmission or reflection reading systems using photo-cells.

Giró has completed the purchase of Roda Packing

On 30-08-07, the Giró Group completed its 100% purchase of the company Roda Packing of which it already owned a 54.5% interest until this moment. In May 2003 Giró aquired a majority interest in Roda Packing. Since and thanks to this strategic decision, Giró has completed its range of packing machines in record time with a program of weighers for the fruit and vegetable industry. As part of this plan, Roda Packing has added important innovations to its weighing machines, such as: new user interfaces, touch screens that are easy and attractive to use or new weighing algorithms that allow to improve productivity and precision by saving on costs for the packer. A new range of high speed static weighers has recently been presented that allow a perfect synchronisation and simultaneous feeding of two Giró Ultrabagger closing machines, without forgetting the launching of ultrasound closing machines that do away with the use of wire clips. All this means that the current range of fruit and vegetable packaging machinery offered by Grupo Giró is the most advanced on the market. The result of this complementary nature of the Giró-Roda machine, has been a rapid increase in machinery sales through these new products and of the wide network of Giró subsidiaries and distributors worldwide. By acquiring a 100% interest in Roda Packing, Giró will be able to better integrate the Roda business processes in its operation and improve efficiency. Likewise, lthe Group’s policy will continue to boost and accelerate the design and launching of new products through Giró and Roda R+D equipment, that complement one another.
